PMH Launches Regional Vaccine Clinics Across Westman
Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) has announced a robust schedule of public clinics for the updated COVID-19 vaccine and the seasonal influenza vaccine. The rollout begins Monday, October 27, with the first public clinics planned in the communities of Swan River, Camperville, and Russell. As the respiratory virus season approaches, PMH aims to provide broad access to vaccines to protect families and vulnerable populations across western Manitoba.
What to Expect this Fall
Nearly 100 free PMH vaccine clinics will operate across the region throughout October and November, culminating in a final clinic on December 4 at the Brandon Shoppers Mall. A complete listing of PMH-hosted vaccine clinics, plus an immunization consent form you can download in advance, is available on prairieMountainHealth.ca. If your community isn’t listed, you can contact your local public health office for options in your area.
How to Book
Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are accepted. You can book in two ways: online through the PMH website or by calling the toll-free line at 1-844-626-8222 (note any online instructions). Information is frequently updated on PMH’s social channels—Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram—and residents should also watch local newspapers, radio, or public posters for dates, times, and locations.
Vaccine Details and Eligibility
The updated COVID-19 vaccine provides broader protection against variants expected to be common in the upcoming respiratory virus season. It can be administered at the same visit as the seasonal flu vaccine. People will need to wait at least three months since their last COVID-19 vaccination or infection before their next dose. Importantly, you only need to book one appointment to receive both vaccines on the same day.
Who Can Receive Vaccines
Anyone aged six months and older is eligible for the updated vaccines. Public health emphasizes the flu vaccine for children six months to under five years, a group at higher risk during flu season. Vaccination against both COVID-19 and the flu is especially important for people at higher risk of severe outcomes, including:
– Adults 65 and older
– Residents of long-term care homes or other congregate living settings
– Individuals with underlying medical conditions
– Pregnant individuals
– People from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities
– Members of racialized and other equity-deserving communities
– Those who provide essential community services
Special Considerations
For those aged 65 and older, an enhanced flu vaccine is available, and pneumococcal vaccine can be provided to eligible individuals. Please bring your Manitoba Health card and wear a short-sleeved shirt if possible to facilitate vaccination. If you feel unwell, please postpone attendance and reschedule by calling 1-844-626-8222.
Stay Informed
PMH encourages community members to verify dates and locations regularly, as schedules can change. In addition to the official PMH website, social media updates and local media are reliable sources for the latest clinic information. By taking part in these clinics, residents contribute to collective protection against both COVID-19 and influenza as the season approaches.
Take the Step Towards a Safer Fall and Winter
Scheduling a vaccination now helps build immunity early, especially for households with young children, seniors, or individuals with medical vulnerabilities. A single appointment can cover both vaccines, simplifying the experience and protecting more people in your crew. Remember to check your local PMH listings for the nearest clinic, and consider booking ahead to secure your preferred time slot.
