Hyderabad DBR Housing Distribution Gains Momentum
In a major step toward the government’s goal of providing permanent shelter for the urban poor, Hyderabad’s Double Bedroom (DBR) housing scheme is accelerating again. After a pause caused by court proceedings, the housing distribution was resumed in a special program held at the Minister’s Quarters, marking renewed momentum in delivering titles to eligible beneficiaries.
A Moment of Joy for Beneficiaries
During the event, titles were handed over to 75 qualifying residents from key constituencies, with the broader program already having disbursed housing plots to thousands in the city. The rediscovered pace comes after court sanctions allowed the government to restart the DBR housing distribution, which had been delayed for years due to pending litigation.
The Key Figures and Event
The distribution took place in the presence of notable public figures, including Telangana’s Urban Development Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, and MP Anil Kumar Yadav, along with local legislators and other representatives. Beneficiaries from Charminar, Malakpet, Yakutpura, and Chandrayangutta received their plots, symbolizing a tangible shift from policy to real homes for families that have waited years for ownership documents.
DBR Housing Scheme: Progress and Scope
Officials highlighted that the DBR scheme is not just about a roof; it aims to elevate living standards in slum and low-income pockets by providing stable, permanent housing. With court clearances in place, the government is moving quickly to restart the allocation process and ensure that eligible families receive their titles without further delays.
Where Allocations Have Gone So Far
As part of the ongoing rollout, the government has already issued housing titles to residents in multiple areas: Amberpet (134 people), Bahadurpura (294), Bandlaguda (155), Charminar (209), Saidabad (206), with 28 in other localities. Taken together, 1,024 beneficiaries have been identified for titles, and today 75 more were handed over by the minister himself. Officials say the remaining beneficiaries will soon receive their titles through the respective MRO (Mandal Revenue Office) offices.
Indiramma Illu and DBR: A Complementary Push
In addition to the DBR effort, Telangana’s Indiramma Illu housing program is also driving forward the dream of home ownership for the poor. The government has categorized beneficiaries into three tiers under this scheme. The first tier provides Rs 5 lakh financial assistance to families with their own land to construct a home. The second tier targets households without land, where the government will construct the house. The double bedroom housing allocations are being integrated into this broader framework, with eligible families expected to receive their houses in the near future.
What This Means for Hyderabad’s Poor
Leaders emphasize that the DBR and Indiramma Illu initiatives together aim to uplift living conditions in the city’s most vulnerable neighborhoods. The distribution of plots and eventual handover of titles represent a meaningful step toward economic stability and dignity for thousands of families who have long dreamed of owning a home.
Next Steps and Timelines
Officials confirm that while 75 beneficiaries received titles today, many more are in line to receive theirs via local MRO offices in the weeks ahead. The government is committed to expediting the process, ensuring a transparent, efficient flow of titles so that eligible families can move into their own homes without further delays.
