Día del Shopping in Peru: The Mega Mall Festival of Discounts and Family Fun

What is Día del Shopping?

Peru’s Día del Shopping is a nationwide retail celebration that transforms shopping centers into two days of experiences, gastronomy, entertainment, and substantial savings. Organized by the Asociación de Centros Comerciales y Entretenimiento (ACCEP), the event runs for two days—27 and 28 September—and offers discounts of up to 70% across fashion, technology, home, beauty and wellness, restaurants, sports, and entertainment. More than 104 Peruvian and international brands participate across the country’s 88 shopping centers, turning malls into festive hubs for the whole family.

ACCEP’s general manager, José Antonio Contreras, notes that the campaign has become the largest retail celebration in Peru. He emphasizes that the initiative is not only about big-name anchors but also about helping small businesses inside each mall, ensuring the event boosts local commerce and strengthens the value chain. “We expect to welcome more than four million visitors over these two days, with full experiences, gastronomy, entertainment, and discounts,” Contreras said in discussions with Trome.

A nationwide retail festival with local impact

The Día del Shopping is designed to energize economic activity, support the retail sector, and provide accessible entertainment for families. Malls extend hours to accommodate shoppers, typically from 10:00 in the morning to 10:00 at night, reflecting the campaign’s scale and community focus. Early projections suggest about a 9% increase in mall visitors compared with a typical period, underscoring the event’s role in sustaining commerce across Peru’s urban centers.

Highlights by mall

Across Lima and other cities—Piura, Cajamarca, Chiclayo, Trujillo, Chimbote, Iquitos, Pucallpa, Ica, Arequipa, Huancayo, Huánuco, Juliaca, Puno and Cusco—the Día del Shopping showcases a mix of promotions, live entertainment, workshops, and family-friendly activities. Here are some top highlights from several centers:

Mall del Sur

In addition to its anniversary celebration, Mall del Sur features daily drawings (a car, a travel package, and a 3,000 soles voucher). Expect live shows in Plaza Tradiciones and ongoing Día del Shopping discounts, with family activities such as face painting and interactive performances. The weekend also offers a live line-up: Saturday features Ronald Hidalgo’s tribute to Juan Gabriel and Orquesta Bembe, while Sunday hosts the final of a school-band competition and a Candy and Colorín show.

Mall Aventura

The mall hosts a “Venta pasillo” with special promotions, cocktail tastings, and live DJ sets by Darzu. Visitors can enter Bingo Aventura and enjoy prizes of up to 500 soles on purchases. An unusual attraction includes a guided paranormal experience at the “Museum of the Warrens” (Santa Anita), inspired by famous horror film artifacts.

Plaza Norte

Plaza Norte’s Día del Shopping coincides with its anniversary, featuring client raffles (vales, travel packages, and a vehicle). The weekend also includes a lively capibaras batucada and, on Saturday, a maestro-led dance class and a “Bailando por mi promo” contest, followed by a live performance from Joven Sensación. Sunday closes with the school-band finals, Burbujas de Colores, and You Salsa performances.

Mallplaza & Open Plaza

These centers offer a mix of interactive games—hammer, piggy bank, and other challenges—to win gift cards and immediate prizes in bundles and combos designed for quick, on-the-spot rewards.

MegaPlaza

MegaPlaza stages live music on Saturday with Kate Candela, Jhonny Banda Rock, and a tribute act to 2 Unlimited. Shoppers spending from 50 soles can enter daily drawings for 500 soles in gift cards, with double chances for purchases at participating outlets like Tottus, Cinemark, Ripley, and Falabella.

La Rambla

A festive, family-friendly vibe prevails at La Rambla with itinerant parades, a soirée featuring María Pía Copello, and bingo with Nelly Rossinelli. A “cabina de la suerte” allows participants to win instant prizes using a special voucher.

KM40

Activities include face painting, spring-themed workshops, and a morning schedule of kid-friendly shows designed to engage younger visitors and their families.

Boulevard Puntamar

The boulevard hosts a entrepreneurship fair, a capoeira showcase, live music by Aldo Coz, and frequent prize drawings to reward shoppers with merchandise and experiences.

Conclusion: A festival for all ages

From Lima to regional capitals, Día del Shopping has evolved into Peru’s premier retail festival—an event where shopping becomes entertainment. The two-day celebration blends significant discounts with live performances, workshops, and interactive experiences aimed at families and casual shoppers alike.
