William ‘Bill’ Casey, Beloved Husband and Father, Remembered in Athea

Remembering William ‘Bill’ Casey

William Casey, known to family and friends as Bill, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital in Limerick after a short illness. Surrounded by his loving family, he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, steadfastness and devotion that touched many lives across Athea and the surrounding community. May he rest in peace.

A life rooted in family, faith and community

Bill’s life was anchored in faith, family and a deep sense of responsibility to others. He enjoyed a long, loving marriage with his wife Peggy (née O’Sullivan-Rathmore) and raised a remarkable family who carry his memory forward in their daily lives. His sons Liam and Denis, and daughters Ann Marie, Mairead and Mary Ita, were the heart of his days, and he welcomed each daughter-in-law Toni and sons-in-law Peter, Billy, Ger and Philip with warmth and pride. He delighted in the successes and milestones of his grandchildren, Sarah, Molly, Caoimhe, Stephen, Eavan, Pierce, Ruairi, Casey, Grace, Bill and Ned, and he cherished the role of provider, mentor and friend to all who knew him.

Family first, always

Beyond his immediate family, Bill’s love extended to brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of extended family, neighbours and friends. He faced life’s challenges with quiet dignity and offered a steady hand to those in need, earning the respect and affection of many who relied on his thoughtful, practical kindness.

In the church and in the community

Bill’s faith was a guiding light throughout his life, and his respect for tradition and community service was evident in the way he lived each day. The Casey family invites friends and neighbours to join in prayer and remembrance at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Athea. Reposing will take place on Tuesday evening, September 30th, from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. Requiem Mass will be celebrated in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Athea, on Wednesday at 12 noon, and the service will be live-streamed at www.churchservices.tv/athea. A final tribute and lasting memory

As we say goodbye to Bill, those who knew him remember a man of integrity, warmth and generosity. He faced each day with a gentle smile, a ready word of encouragement, and an unwavering commitment to his family and his community. He touched countless lives and leaves behind a family that will strive to honor his example through compassion, responsibility and the same quiet strength that defined his life.

To all who offered support and shared in the sorrow, the Casey family extends heartfelt thanks. May Bill’s memory continue to inspire kindness and respect in Athea and beyond.
