Introduction
In a significant development, the 69th General Body Meeting of the South Indian Actors’ Union convened yesterday in Chennai, presided over by President Nasar, along with Secretary Karthi, General Secretary Vishal, and other key leaders. This meeting was an important platform to address pressing issues faced by the members of the union.
Tribute to Departed Actors
During the meeting, members paid their respects to late actors including Delhi Ganesh, Saroja Devi, Rajesh, and Robo Shankar. In a heartwarming gesture, renowned actress M.N. Rajam was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her exceptional contributions to the film industry. Additionally, national award recipients such as Oorvashi, M.S. Bhaskar, and G.V. Prakash were recognized for their remarkable talents and achievements.
New Resolution Against Defamatory Acts
A pivotal resolution was passed concerning the dissemination of false and defamatory information about union members, particularly regarding their personal lives, on social media platforms. The union condemned such actions vehemently. It was decided that stringent disciplinary actions would be imposed on individuals who are part of the union and engage in spreading falsehoods. More importantly, the union vowed to take legal action against any individuals, whether union members or not, found to be participating in such disgraceful activities.
Financial Decisions and Infrastructure Development
In addition to the resolution against defamation, the meeting also revisited discussions from the 67th General Body Meeting regarding the construction of a new union building. A decision was made to secure a loan of up to Rs. 40 crore from a bank for this purpose. As it stands, a sum of Rs. 25 crore has already been secured, and the corresponding interest is being repaid. However, to enhance the building’s infrastructure with modern technology and design, an additional Rs. 10 crore is required, prompting further decisions to obtain additional funds from the bank.
Conclusion
This meeting not only reflects the union’s commitment to protecting its members’ integrity but also emphasizes the importance of collective support in addressing and combating negativity within the industry. By taking strong stances against defamation and misinformation, the South Indian Actors’ Union aims to foster a healthy and respectful environment for all its members.
