Kildangan pub fundraiser raises funds for local children

Community comes together for a heartfelt fundraiser at The Crosskeys

In the heart of Kildangan, The Crosskeys pub hosted a memorable fundraiser aimed at easing the lives of two local children in need. The night unfolded with a blend of karaoke, live music, and a high-energy DJ set, turning an unexpected setback into a testament to community spirit.

Adapting to change and delivering a night to remember

What began as a planned event organized by Lisa Mackey and hosted by podcasters Danni and Zena from the Unhinged podcast faced a last-minute cancellation on Saturday evening. Shannon Keogh from The Crosskeys stepped forward to keep the event alive, emphasizing resilience and community-first values. “We pushed through and went ahead with it. It was good craic and everyone was in good spirits,” Shannon said, reflecting on a room full of engaged attendees.

The function room and lounge were buzzing with attendees, underscoring the town’s willingness to rally around a good cause. Local musicians stepped up to entertain, offering performances that resonated with the crowd and kept energy levels high throughout the night.

Music, prizes, and a night of generous giving

Athy-based singer Katie Roycroft and Ester Rowan graced the stage, delivering memorable performances that had the audience singing along and cheering between numbers. When the music paused, DJ Evan McCormack returned to the decks to close the night with a celebratory vibe, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Prizes throughout the raffle added to the evening’s excitement. One lucky participant took home a €500 voucher from Kim and Lyn’s A Sorted Affair, a business known for professional home organizing and decluttering. Another winner enjoyed a two-night stay at The Bridge House Hotel in Tullamore, adding a touch of luxury to the charitable night.

A clear purpose: helping local children in need

“The funds are for two kids,” Shannon explained. “It’s to help ease their lives a little bit. It’s nice to be able to do something for them.” The generosity displayed by attendees highlights how local venues can become powerful catalysts for support in times of need, especially when the community rallies behind a shared purpose.

The Crosskeys’ fundraiser not only raised essential funds but also reinforced a sense of belonging among residents. Spirits were high as people left with more than just prizes; they carried the affirmation that acts of kindness, even on a Saturday night, can create real, positive change in the community.

Looking ahead

With the event’s success, The Crosskeys is likely to become a trusted gathering place for future community initiatives. The fundraising model—combining entertainment with a clear charitable goal—demonstrates how local pubs can serve as inclusive spaces where people come together to support neighbors in need.
