Norqain expands the Independence line with an eye-catching orange version
Norqain, the young, family-owned Swiss watch brand, continues to push the boundaries of independent watchmaking with the introduction of a bold new variant of its Independence Skeleton Chrono. Debuted in late 2024, the 42mm orange model marries the brand’s distinctive 42mm asymmetrical case with a striking skeletonised dial, all while housing the exclusive 8k automatic column-wheel flyback chronograph calibre developed in partnership with AMT Manufacture. This release reinforces Norqain’s reputation for technical prowess and contemporary styling in equal measure.
The hallmark of the Independence collection—the 42mm case with its signature asymmetry—remains unchanged in this version. Crafted in brushed and polished stainless steel, the case presents a refined, modern silhouette that sits comfortably on the wrist. Water-resistance is rated to 100 meters, helped by a screw-down crown and caseback. The left flank features a plate that can be personalized, a nod to Norqain’s emphasis on individuality and ownership.
8k calibre: a specialised, high-end chronograph for enthusiasts
At the heart of the Independence Skeleton Chrono Orange lies the Calibre 8k, an automatic column-wheel flyback chronograph developed with AMT Manufacture. AMT, a sister company of Sellita, provides the platform for brands seeking more than off-the-shelf movements by enabling bespoke, high-end calibres. The 8k is derived from a base SW500 but has undergone extensive open-worked redesign to reveal its gear train and chromed components through the skeletonised dial and caseback.
The movement features a column-wheel mechanism for precise chronograph operation and a flyback function, allowing the chronograph to be reset and restarted with a single push of a button. This is a practical feature for pilots, professionals, and enthusiasts who require rapid timing adjustments in quick succession. Operating at 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and delivering a 62-hour power reserve, the 8k embodies Norqain’s blend of robustness and technical sophistication. Every unit is COSC Chronometer certified, underscoring a commitment to precision and reliability.
Design and color: orange as a statement of energy and depth
The new orange version injects energy into the Independence Skeleton Chrono line. The orange touches are carefully applied to highlight the skeletonised dial details and the strap, creating a vivid contrast that enhances depth perception and legibility. This colour strategy aligns with Norqain’s idea of a contemporary, dynamic tool watch that remains legible and functional under varied conditions.
Owners can choose between two strap configurations: an integrated 4-link stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp and micro-adjustment for a secure and comfortable fit, or an orange textured rubber strap with a pin buckle. The steel bracelet option emphasizes the watch’s upscale character, while the rubber strap emphasizes sportiness and everyday wearability.
Availability and price
Norqain has positioned the Independence Skeleton Chrono Orange at EUR 6,150 with the steel bracelet and EUR 5,900 with the orange rubber strap. The pricing reflects the high-end, bespoke calibre inside and the premium materials used for the case and dial. As with prior Independence models, this variant is aimed at collectors and enthusiasts who value a bold aesthetic paired with sophisticated horology.
Why this model matters
Beyond its striking colourway, the Independence Skeleton Chrono 42mm Orange signals Norqain’s confidence in its in-house and partner-financed manufacturing ecosystem. The collaboration with AMT Manufacture to produce the 8k calibre demonstrates a commitment to cutting-edge chronograph technology, while the skeletonised dial showcases the skill involved in revealing movement architecture. It’s a watch that communicates both performance and personality—ideal for wearers who want a timepiece that performs under pressure while turning heads.
