BukSU Hosts Journal Scouting Workshop to Boost Research Publications

BukSU Leads Journal Scouting Workshop for Faculty Research

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) recently hosted a Journal Scouting and Research Writeshop for Publication on October 15, 2025. The event was organized by the university’s Research and Development Unit and held at the 4th Floor Conference Hall of the Research and Extension Building. The workshop aimed to empower faculty researchers to elevate their research output and improve submission success rates to high-impact journals indexed in Scopus or the Web of Science (WoS).

Structured Guidance for Publishing Excellence

In describing the workshop, Ms. Joan Recente, Director for Research and Development Unit, highlighted the goal of creating a structured environment where completed research papers can be refined and targeted for reputable journals. “The activity provided a structured environment for faculty to refine their completed research papers and target them for submission to high-impact journals indexed in Scopus or the Web of Science (WoS),” she said. The writeshop addressed common obstacles faced by researchers, including identifying appropriate journals and aligning manuscripts with the specific requirements of publishers.

Editorial Support and Journal Targeting

Mr. Reymark T. Malinda, Head of the Publication Section, took the lead in presenting pre-selected Scopus-Indexed Journals to faculty participants. The list offered publication options that align with the scope and findings of existing studies, helping researchers map each paper to suitable venues and reduce the trial-and-error period often associated with journal submissions.

What Participants Gained

Participants engaged in practical sessions designed to:

  • Assess manuscript readiness and identify gaps that journals typically require revisions for.
  • Understand common formatting, citation, and ethical guidelines used by Scopus and WoS-indexed journals.
  • Receive targeted feedback from the BukSU Publication Section to improve acceptance chances.
  • Learn how to craft persuasive cover letters and manuscript declarations that align with journal expectations.

By focusing on pre-selected journals and providing concrete, publish-ready guidance, the writeshop aimed to shorten the path from completed research to formal publication, enhancing the university’s overall research footprint.

Looking Ahead: Publication as a Strategic Outcome

Internal observers noted that publication is a strategic outcome for BukSU, reflecting the university’s commitment to scholarly excellence and knowledge dissemination. The writeshop not only benefits individual researchers but also strengthens the university’s research culture by fostering collaboration and shared best practices for achieving Scopus and WoS-indexed publications.
