William ‘Bill’ Casey obituary: Athea, Limerick family man

Remembering William ‘Bill’ Casey

William Casey, known to family and friends as Bill, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital in Limerick after a brief illness. His death, though sudden in its timing, was surrounded by the love of family and those who knew him best. Bill’s loss will be felt deeply across the Athea community and beyond, where he lived with the quiet dignity that marked his days.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather

Bill was a cherished husband to Peggy (née O’Sullivan-Rathmore) and a dedicated father to Liam and Denis. He also took pride in the roles he held as a father-in-law and grandfather to a large and loving family. His children Ann Marie, Mairead, and Mary Ita remember him as a steady source of support, guidance, and encouragement. In particular, his grandchildren—Sarah, Molly, Caoimhe, Stephen, Eavan, Pierce, Ruairi, Casey, Grace, Bill, and Ned—brought him immense joy, and he will be remembered for the time and attention he devoted to them.

Bill’s extended family, including his brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews, and cousins, will attest to the way he valued kinship and community. His presence offered comfort and warmth to those around him, and his thoughtful nature will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Life and local service

Though the notice provides limited detail about Bill’s early life, those who knew him describe a man whose life was anchored in family, faith, and neighbourliness. He lived his days in Athea with a respect for others and a steady work ethic that helped him to be a reliable, kind, and generous member of the community. His quiet strength and generous spirit leaves a lasting impression on everyone he touched.
