Overview of the incident
Three people were injured in a road collision that occurred early on Sunday morning on the road from Fribourg to Lussy. The incident was reported to the Canton Police’s Center for Engagement and Alarm around 7:30 am on 28 September 2025. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where a car and a public transport bus had collided head-on as the bus was traveling in its normal direction.
The car involved was driven by a man aged 20, who was traveling from Villaz-St-Pierre toward Romont. At a moment to be determined by investigators, the driver allegedly veered to the left and struck the oncoming bus, which did not carry passengers at the time of the crash. The bus driver, a 49-year-old man, was not injured. The bus had no passengers on board when the collision occurred.
Injured parties and initial response
The occupants of the car — the 20-year-old driver and two passengers aged 21 and 22 — were taken to hospital by ambulances for treatment of their injuries. Police and emergency personnel coordinated a swift response to secure the scene, assist the injured, and facilitate medical transport. The bus driver remained uninjured, and there were no passengers aboard the bus at the moment of impact, according to authorities on scene.
Legal situation and preliminary findings
During the on-site investigation, officers determined that the 20-year-old driver held a learner’s permit and was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. It was also noted that a front-seat passenger aged 22 did not hold a driving license. In line with standard procedure, both the driver and the non-licensed passenger will be reported to the competent authorities for further review as the investigation continues.
Road closure and scene management
The accident prompted authorities to interrupt traffic on the road for approximately three hours. Firefighters from the Bataillon Sud assisted with securing the scene and restoring the roadway to normal conditions. A detour was put in place to guide motorists around the site while the emergency operation and subsequent road repairs were carried out.
Investigation and what happens next
At this stage, the exact causes of the collision remain unknown. An ongoing police investigation will examine factors such as driver behavior, the possible influence of alcohol, weather and road conditions, and vehicle timing. As more information becomes available, authorities will share updates with the public. In the meantime, motorists are urged to follow detour directions and exercise caution on the Fribourg–Lussy corridor until the area is fully reopened.
Public safety note
The authorities remind drivers to adhere to traffic laws, avoid driving under the influence, and ensure proper licensing and vehicle readiness before taking to the road. Thinly veiled risk factors, such as not being properly licensed or driving under the influence, can have severe consequences for all road users.
