Overview
A morning crash in the village of Lussy, in the Fribourg canton, left three young people injured after a car collided with an oncoming public transport bus. The incident occurred on Sunday around 7:30 am on the road from Fribourg to Lussy.
Incident details
According to the cantonal police, a 20-year-old driver from Villaz-Saint-Pierre traveling toward Romont drifted to the left side of the roadway and struck the bus head-on. The bus was traveling in the opposite direction and had no passengers aboard at the time of the collision. The bus driver, a 49-year-old man, was not injured, and the bus was not carrying passengers when the crash happened.
People involved
The car carried three occupants: the 20-year-old driver and two passengers aged 21 and 22. All three were wounded and transported to a hospital for treatment. The bus driver, aged 49, remained unharmed. The collision left the road temporarily blocked as responders worked the scene.
Investigation and legal implications
Initial findings from the cantonal police indicate the automobile was driven with a learner’s permit and under the influence of alcohol. The 22-year-old front passenger, who did not possess a driving license, will also be reported to the competent authorities. Investigators will examine contributing factors and determine any further charges as the case develops.
Road closure and emergency response
The Fribourg cantonal road remained closed for about three hours to allow emergency services and firefighters to secure the scene and assist the injured. Traffic was diverted as responders cleared the area and crews assessed the vehicles and road conditions.
Safety reminder
Officials reiterate that driving with a learner’s permit and alcohol impairment endangers lives and can lead to serious consequences. Road safety on rural routes remains a priority for authorities in the Fribourg region.
