Why breast cancer early detection matters
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Israel, with about 5,500 new cases each year. Detecting the disease in its early stages dramatically increases the chance of cure, improving survival to over 90%. Behind every statistic are real women—mothers, sisters, friends—whose stories motivate a national effort to prioritize early detection and accessible care.
The Pink Awareness initiative: a collaborative push
Coinciding with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the Pink Awareness initiative brings together the Histadrut (the national labor federation), Na’amat (the women’s movement), and the non-profit One in Nine. The goal is simple but powerful: raise awareness about the critical importance of early detection and provide practical tools for communities and workplaces to act.
What’s included in the program
Dedicated information hub – A purpose-built website offers trustworthy, accessible information about breast cancer early detection, answers to common questions, and myth-busting resources. Visit pinkawarness.co.il to learn more.
Workplace outreach toolbox – The initiative provides resources for workplace committees and organizations wishing to run awareness activities or establish support groups for survivors, in partnership with One in Nine.
Public awareness campaign – A compelling television and social media campaign spreads the message to every home in Israel, reinforcing the importance of screening and prompt medical attention.
The Pink Binder: organizing the cancer journey
One of the program’s flagship offerings is the Pink Binder. This practical folder helps women navigating breast cancer to organize essential information, including test results, doctor summaries, appointments, treatment plans, prescriptions, and insurance details. It will be available at Histadrut and Na’amat branches nationwide, at around 40 points from the north to the south, ensuring easy access for patients across the country.
Why this matters for communities
The Pink Awareness initiative isn’t only about numbers; it’s about real lives and real communities. Early detection saves lives, reduces treatment burdens, and accelerates pathways to supportive services. The effort also creates a network of ambassadors who can share reliable information, reduce stigma, and encourage friends and colleagues to seek screening. When workplaces get involved, families and communities feel the impact in tangible ways.
How you can participate
Anyone can contribute to changing reality for women facing breast cancer. You can become an ambassador, share the message with your networks, and help your workplace host educational sessions. To join, spread the word about the Pink Awareness program, direct others to the information hub, and consider how your organization can support survivors through the Pink Binder program.
Take action today
October is a reminder that early detection is a lifesaver. By partnering with Histadrut, Na’amat, and One in Nine, the Pink Awareness initiative turns awareness into action—one conversation, one workplace, one binder at a time. Together, we can move from awareness to prevention and support, saving lives and shaping healthier futures for Israeli families.
Visit the program’s site, join the network, and invite others to participate. Together, we can amplify the message that “early detection saves lives” and build a culture where every woman has access to the information and care she needs.
