Leadership and direction for the 2025-2030 term
In its regular session on Saturday, the General Assembly of the Association of Geneva Municipalities (ACG) elected its new committee for the municipal legislature 2025-2030 and named Martin Staub, the administrative councillor of Vernier, as president. The ACG’s committee functions as its executive body and is composed of thirteen members chosen by the representatives of the communes. The arrangement is designed to ensure geographic balance across the canton, in line with the organization’s statutes. The City of Geneva designated Alfonso Gomez to serve as vice-president, reinforcing the intent to maintain broad representation within the leadership.
Dialogue with the cantonal authorities
Speaking during the session, outgoing president Karine Bruchez presented a bilan (assessment) of her two-year mandate. She highlighted a clear intensification of the ACG’s activities and those of the public entities linked to it, while regretting what she described as the “absence of dialogue with the State Council” (the cantonal government). Bruchez’s remarks underscored a perceived gap between municipal concerns and cantonal decision-making, a theme often raised in Geneva’s intergovernmental discussions.
Martin Staub, taking the floor for his first intervention as president-elect, affirmed his intention to renew ties with the cantonal executive. He stressed the need to reestablish constructive relations between the communes and the canton, pointing to a collaborative approach as essential for addressing shared challenges—from urban planning to public services and inter-mmunicipal cooperation.
Members elected to the committee
For the 2025-2030 legislature, the following members were elected by the General Assembly. The list reflects a broad geographic spread, consistent with the ACG’s aim of equitable commune representation:
- Florian Gross (Chêne-Bougeries)
- Béatrice Guex-Crosier (Bardonnex)
- Karen Guinand (Genthod)
- Carole Lapaire (Collonge-Bellerive)
- Laurence Miserez (Vandoeuvres)
- Salima Moyard (Lancy)
- Jean-Pierre Pasquier (Onex)
- Isabelle Rasmussen (Pregny-Chambésy)
- Martin Staub (Vernier)
- Laurent Tremblet (Meyrin)
- Nathalie von Gunten-Dal Busco (Confignon)
- Anne Zoller (Dardagny)
Note: the committee comprises thirteen members, with Alfonso Gomez designated by the City of Geneva to serve as vice-president, in accordance with the ACG statutes. The composition aims to ensure geographical balance and effective coordination among Geneva’s diverse communes.
Outlook for 2025-2030
Looking ahead, the Staub presidency is positioned to emphasize renewed collaboration with the cantonal authorities and strengthened inter-municipal cooperation. Key priorities are likely to include improving the delivery of services across the canton, aligning planning and development standards to benefit both residents and local economies, and fostering knowledge sharing among communes. Staub’s stated goal of re-establishing constructive dialogue with the cantonal executive will be tested in the coming months, as the ACG seeks to translate its intensified activities into tangible improvements for Geneva’s municipalities and their residents.
