Second arrest in Oslo kidnapping case tied to Foxtrot
Oslo police announced Friday that a 29-year-old Norwegian man from Oslo has been arrested again in connection with the kidnapping of a 24-year-old earlier this month. This marks the second time the same man has been detained in relation to the case, and he is scheduled to be presented for detention at Oslo District Court (Oslo tingrett) on Saturday.
Police prosecutor Sonika Sharma-Sundheim said: “We have grounds for detention at this stage.” She added that the detention is warranted while the investigation continues.
What happened and how it ties to Foxtrot
The kidnapping reportedly involved the use of a taxi, according to VG’s information. The case is believed to be connected to a multi-million kroner debt to the Foxtrot gang, a Swedish criminal network believed to be behind the demand and related violence.
Timeline of arrests and the victim
The 29-year-old suspect was first arrested on Friday, September 19, and released the following day. The 24-year-old victim managed to escape at some point, and the case has unfolded with multiple arrests and ongoing investigations.
The attack linked to the same case
In a related development, Tuesday saw a blast at a beauty salon on Bislett in Oslo, reportedly carried out by two 13-year-olds. The attack is connected to Foxtrot and to the ongoing kidnapping and debt case. One grenade did not detonate and was later disposed of by the police bomb squad; the other device is part of the linked series of incidents.
Who is involved and the current status
So far, at least ten people have been questioned or charged in connection with the kidnapping. The individuals include:
- A 28-year-old man who emigrated to Sweden and has prior convictions for drugs and violence; charged with aggravated deprivation of liberty and remanded in custody. He denies guilt.
- A 29-year-old man, the second arrestee, charged with aggravated deprivation of liberty and remanded; he denies guilt and is described by his defense as a taxi driver.
- A 19-year-old, charged in the kidnapping case but not detained; he denies guilt.
- A 27-year-old, charged in the kidnapping case and abroad in connection with a music job; his defense says.
- A second 29-year-old, arrested in connection with the case; he denies guilt and is scheduled for a detention hearing on Saturday, Sept. 27.
- A sixth person is charged in the kidnapping case and is internationally sought; VG has not been able to reach their lawyer.
Norwegian authorities stress that the investigation remains ongoing and that there is still some uncertainty about the exact roles of several suspects. The defense teams argue that the evidence is not yet sufficient for continued detention and have emphasized the right to silence until further investigation.
The case continues to unfold amid broader concerns about violent crime linked to organized groups such as Foxtrot and the financial disputes investigators say are driving these actions. Oslo police and the prosecutor’s team say more arrests could follow as the inquiry expands and more witnesses are questioned.
